Future Rangers Program Consent Form

  • Program Overview:

The Future Rangers Program is the flagship program of the Global Conservation Corps, a Section 18.a non-profit operating in South Africa. The program is a classroom and excursion-based conservation education program with a strong emphasis on mentorship, leadership and useful skill-building. The aim of the program is to aid graduates in finding employment within the local wildlife economy.

    Data Collection:

This is an invitation for your (your learners’) participation in the Future Rangers Program, through the non-profit Global Conservation Corps. An important part of participating in this program is ongoing data collection. We will be collecting basic demographics of all students, including age, gender, and living-standards measure (LSM). However, our main focus of ongoing data collection is to assess evidence of learning, and your learners’ attitudes and behaviors in relation to the environment and wildlife over time. In order to maximise the success of the program, it is vital that we understand learner perceptions relating to the Future Rangers Program.

Your learner will be asked questions in relation to education, wildlife conservation, and how it has affected their communities and them personally. The data collection is included in the programmatic schedule, and will not require your time. Data collection will include, but is not limited to, written questionnaires, occasional recorded one-on-one interviews, group activities and personal journaling. Data will be primarily collected through the Future Rangers App by GCC staff, and all previously mentioned data will remain outwardly anonymous.

GCC is collecting this data in order to improve the program over time, increase program funding, and most importantly, maximise your learners’ success during and after program completion. This includes tracking student progress and creating a portfolio of evidence of learning and experience to aid in employment, as well as procuring greater opportunities and scholarships for your learner.

Please feel free to ask any questions at any time. We are here for you and your learner and to aid in their success. Your learner’s data will not affect your relationship with the Global Conservation Corps or partners.
